What is Nexus

Nexus is a two-player card game.

The core feature of a game of Nexus is that you can't score the cards in your hand directly; you must instead play your card to the Nexus (the row of cards in the middle of the playing area) where your opponent will have the opportunity to subvert it by playing their own card to the Nexus.

The ability to respond to anything your opponent does makes Nexus highly interactive between the two players, but Nexus keeps gameplay fluid by integrating that interactivity with its resource management system - every time a player responds their resources (the cards in their hand) are depleted, but every time they decline to respond they get to draw a card, which replenishes their hand.

Versions of Nexus

Versions of Nexus use the same rules but different deck compositions to better accommodate various play styles.

Nexus - Pirates

The pirates deck is ideal for new players.

At 54 cards, players using this deck will have about 20 turns; just long enough to blunder some early turns and make a comeback.

This deck has the simplest scoring so players can focus on how the nexus itself works.

Nexus - Fairies

The fairies deck is ideal for players who want a fast game with big swings.

At 36 cards, players will only get an average of 11 turns per game; make them count!

This deck also has more negative cards, more different kinds of multipliers, and mushroom cards with dynamic value, so parades' values can fluxuate wildly.

Nexus - Standard Deck

Playing Nexus with a standard 52-card deck of playing cards is ideal for players who only have that deck.
